The Kia Niro is one of the UK’s favourite crossovers because it's affordable, practical, and available with plenty of different hybrid engine options.

The Niro is well loved thanks to its sleek, modern styling and its comfortable drive.

You’ll get a choice of a few different trims that include a range of features. The entry-level model is the Niro 2, but this still includes a rear-view camera and an eight-inch touchscreen. There’s also the Niro 3 and 4 to pick from, plus a choice of hybrid and electric engines.

About the KIA Niro

The Kia Niro hybrid is very popular in Britain because of its inexpensive nature, high levels of practicality and quality interior. It doesn’t feature any brash, futuristic styling, which is refreshing, and its SUV-like body makes it very appealing to a broader market.

Its main rivals are the Peugeot 3008, Volkswagen Golf and Honda CR-V, but what sets the Niro apart is its interior tech and reliability.

The first Kia Niro came out in 2016 and was based on the same platform as the Hyundai Ioniq. It's available with a variety of hybrid options, making it a very compelling option for many looking to enter the world of hybrid electric and all-electric vehicles.

You also get that reliable Kia engineering and value for money, with the Niro scoring high on consumer surveys.

There’s also an all-electric variant that became available from 2019 and ranks highly throughout the EV scene.

What features does the KIA Niro have?

The interior is the best part of owning a used Kia Niro in many ways, mostly because of its simplicity and functionality.

Entry-level Niro models come with an eight-inch display, while uprated models feature a larger 10-inch display.

Standard models also feature a 4.2-inch display along with the gauges, and a more impressive seven-inch display is available on higher-spec cars. This displays extra information such as monitoring the energy flow between the batteries, wheels, engine and electric motor.

To make it a bit more interesting, Kia has fitted it with a graphic to show you growing trees as you drive along – cool, right?

You'll also benefit from two USB ports, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a wireless smartphone charging pad and a beefy sound system.

In terms of practicality, the Niro offers decent headroom, good legroom and impressive amounts of storage space for a hybrid. The boot measures in at 382 litres, which expands to 1,380 litres once the rear seats are folded.

What's the KIA Niro like to drive?

With its touch of electric power, the Kia Niro hybrid offers a very pleasant driving experience. Kicking off the range is the self-charging hybrid model, which produces a combined 140hp.

The next step up is the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model, which produces the same amount of horsepower but is slightly quicker to 62mph.

Both of these models can travel up to 30 miles on one charge.

However, if you’re ready to go all-electric then there is the e-Niro model, which is powered by a 64kWh battery and offering in the region of 250 miles of range.
